Isla de Ometepe
January 14th, 2009
The Isla de Ometepe is a different world on an island in el Lago de Nicaragua. The island was formed by twin volcanoes rising out of the lake.

Ometepe is an unspoiled haven full of activities and charm to spend a few days hiking, biking, swimming and relaxing.

Getting to the island is a pleasant boat ride from Granada, San Jorge, or San Carlos on a ferry or a launcha.

The two large volcanoes are Conception (1610m) and Maderas (1394m).

While hiking to the crater lake on Maderas, I discovered a beautiful species of bromeliad that grows in the cloud forest.
