Alegria, El Salvador

Alegria is a great little town to relax and take a deep breath. It is high in the mountains with great views and wonderful adobe architecture. It is a good idea to walk to the volcano lake around mid-morning and spend the afternoon sitting in the park reading a book or in a cafe enjoying Salvadorian coffee.
Crater Lake in Alegria
The crater lake is about a 45 minute walk south of town. It is full of sulfur and tastes really weird, but it is said to have healing capabilities. I felt great after a swim across the lake. The water is beautiful.
